Bishop Stang High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory school of 550 students located on the beautiful South Coast of Massachusetts in North Dartmouth. Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Performing Arts Teacher specializing in music to join our faculty for the 2026–2027 academic year. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator and musician who can inspire students through music appreciation, vocal performance, and instrumental instruction. This teacher will develop students’ foundational understanding of the performing arts while fostering creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for music across Grades 9–12.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Teach a range of performing arts courses, including Music Appreciation (Foundations of Performing Arts), Choir, and Instrumental Music at multiple levels.
  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons that introduce students to music theory, history, performance techniques, and critical listening skills.
  • Plan, organize, market, and direct major school performances, including the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert, ensuring high-quality productions that showcase student talent and engage the broader community.
  • Direct and manage choral ensembles and instrumental groups, preparing students for performances, concerts, liturgies, and school events.
  • Foster an environment of creativity, discipline, collaboration, and respect in the classroom and rehearsal spaces.
  • Encourage students to explore diverse musical genres, cultures, and historical contexts.
  • Assess incoming students’ musical background and abilities, making informed placement and program recommendations to cultivate talent and support the continued growth of the music program.
  • Develop and expand music programming that supports program growth while fostering strong connections with local Catholic schools, parishes, and community-based music programs to enhance engagement and recruitment.
  • Coordinate with administration, faculty, and communications teams to promote performances and increase community involvement and attendance.
  • Integrate cross-curricular and interdisciplinary approaches to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain and manage musical instruments, equipment, and classroom resources.
  • Assess student progress through performances, written work, and other evaluations, providing regular feedback and support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in school events and performing arts-related extracurricular activities.

Other Responsibilities: Additional duties as assigned and approved by the English and Fine Arts Department Chairperson and the Administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Music or Performing Arts for high school (preferred but not required).
  • Experience teaching high school-level music, choir, or instrumental programs (preferred).
  • Experience directing ensembles or leading student performances (preferred).
  • Proficiency in vocal and/or instrumental instruction, with knowledge of music theory and history.
  • Ability to teach a range of learners from introductory to advanced levels.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
