Description:
Lab Instructional Assistants (IAs) play a crucial role in lab preparation, lab safety, and in student education and are a major asset to the lab instructor. It is also hoped that lab assistants will solidify their understanding of general chemistry, hone their lab skills, and gain some experience as an aid to their peers. We are seeking IAs for the following L1102 sections:
Thursday 9:25A – 12:05P
Thursday 1:40P -4:20P
Thursday 4:30P – 7:10P
Duties:
- Arrive 15-30 min prior to the start of the lab.
- Check to make sure that room is in satisfactory condition and check to make sure that appropriate chemicals and supplies are available and set out (grab the blue bin).
- If supplies are lacking or if solutions need to be made, check in with the lab instructor or lab manager before proceeding.
- At the start of the lab and throughout the lab be available to the instructor in case additional materials are required.
- When the pre-lab lecture has concluded and students begin experiments, check in periodically with students with questions.
- If students have few questions, extra time should be spent reviewing the next week’s lab and checking the blue bin to see if supplies are available.
- Before leaving, check with the instructor to see what materials and chemicals need to be set up before the next section.
Requirements:
Students must have received a minimum of B+ in this course.
