Using Big Interview for Mock Interviews

It’s easy to create an assignment for your users. Below are step by step instructions.

  • Click the downward arrow next to the Big Interview logo in the top-left corner of your screen.
  • Under the EXTRA section of the dropdown menu, select Admin Mode.
  • Once the admin dashboard loads, click the Interviews tab, then select the Interview Assignments button in the dropdown.
  • Click the green button that says “Add New Assignment.”
  • (If you’d prefer to follow video instructions from this point forward, click on “How to Use Assignments” in the top right corner of the screen.)
  • You will be prompted to give your assignment a name and description and set a due date.
  • Configure your Take Limits and Time Limits. These settings determine how many times a user can attempt the assignment and the amount of time allotted for each question.
  • In addition to these options, you can choose to make the assignment “Private” (only the assignment creator can grade or view submissions) or allow students to share the assignment externally. If you need to transfer ownership or share the assignment with another admin, you can do so after the assignment has been created.
  • You can edit a pre-made template or build a list of questions from the question library.
  • Click on the question to add it to your assignment, and click “Save & Continue” to move to the next step.

Next, select the grading criteria for your assignment. You can select the default criteria or add custom criteria.

If you would like to invite users to the assignment, you can add them in bulk via a .csv file or enter their names and email addresses manually. You’ll also have the option to share the assignment using an access code or invite them at a later time.

  • Review the details of your assignment to ensure you’re satisfied. Then click “Save & Publish.”
  • You can now see the live assignment on the main Assignments page.
  • Copy the “Access Code” to share with the users who will complete the assignment.
  • Note: Assignment deadlines are date-based and expire at 11:59 PM on the selected due date in your institution’s configured time zone. If you need students to complete an assignment earlier than 11:59 PM, include the required submission time in your assignment instructions or select an earlier due date.

Can I edit an assignment after it has been created?

Yes. You can edit an assignment after it has been created until students begin using it.
Important: Once an assignment access code has been entered or a student has started the assignment, the assignment questions can no longer be edited to maintain data integrity. Other assignment settings may still be available depending on your organization’s configuration.

Can I duplicate an assignment?

Yes. If you want to reuse an existing assignment, you can duplicate it instead of rebuilding it from scratch. Navigate to the Assignments page, locate the assignment you want to copy, click Actions on the far right, and select Duplicate. This creates a copy of the assignment, including its interview questions, lessons, and settings, which you can edit before assigning it to students.

How do I extend an assignment due date?

If students have not started the assignment, you can update the due date by editing the assignment settings.
If students have already begun or submitted the assignment, some settings may no longer be editable to preserve assignment integrity. If you need additional assistance, contact Big Interview Support.

Can I delete an assignment?

Assignments can generally be removed before they are actively being used by students.
If students have already begun working on an assignment or submissions exist, deleting or making significant changes may not be available in order to preserve assignment data. If you’re unsure whether an assignment can be removed, contact Big Interview Support.
