Position Summary:
The Custodian at Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus School plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and parish community. The custodian ensures that the school facilities reflect the values of care, respect, and stewardship that are central to our Catholic mission.
Responsibilities:
● Clean and sanitize classrooms, hallways, offices, bathrooms, cafeteria, and common areas daily.
● Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and furniture as assigned.
● Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste properly.
● Ensure restrooms are clean, stocked, and maintained throughout the day.
● Set up and break down spaces for school and parish events, including liturgies, assemblies, and meetings.
● Monitor and report maintenance or safety issues (plumbing, electrical, heating, etc.) to the principal or parish facilities manager.
● Perform light repairs and maintenance (changing light bulbs, minor plumbing issues, etc.).
● Maintain an organized custodial closet and monitor cleaning supply inventory.
● Assist with outdoor upkeep, including snow shoveling, salting walkways, and light yard maintenance.
● Secure the building after school hours (lock doors, close windows, turn off lights, and set alarms).
● Follow all safety, security, and health protocols as required by the school and the Archdiocese of Boston.
● Conduct all duties in a manner consistent with the Catholic values and mission of Saint Theresa School.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
● Previous custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience in a school or parish setting is strongly preferred.
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
● Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
● Respectful and supportive of a Catholic educational environment.
● Completion of CORI, and Protecting God’s Children
Work Schedule and Compensation:
● Approximately 25–30 hours per week, typically between and with flexibility for school events.

● Position follows the school year calendar with limited summer hours as needed.
