The Internships at The Special Olympics of Massachusetts (SOMA) will assist with the “Young Athletes” program. The Young Athletes curriculum is the first stage of Unified Sports participation. This is an inclusive sport and play program for students with and without intellectual disabilities. Students develop fundamental gross motor skills, improve their social and emotional skills, and learn healthy habits that they will be able to carry with them through life. Young Athletes is for PK-3rd graders and is fine motor skills based: running, jumping, kicking, throwing, catching.
The Internship will require, coordinating student volunteers, facilitating communication, and event set up between the students, instructor, SOMA and participants and their families.
Through this position, the Intern will gain leadership and event management skills as well as facilitate a positive service learning opportunity for their peers.
