The Desk Assistant (DA) is an undergraduate student who works for Residence Life & Housing to ensure the safety, security, and customer services that our office affords to each resident at Emmanuel College. As the ‘face’ of each residence hall, the DA position requires candidates to effectively demonstrate a positive and professional attitude when working with residents, professional staff members, employees, guests, and other members of the Emmanuel College community. The DA is an integral part of the development of a community environment in the residence hall and ensures that residents feel protected and offered resources at all times. Desk Assistants work with residents to sign in guests, offer resources, and provide administrative support to the ADRD of their respective residence halls.

DAs assist the Team Leader, ARD, & ADRD with building opening, closing, office operations, and maintain effective communication between themselves, their colleagues and the professional staff in their assigned residence hall. DAs work a maximum of 12 hours a week and a minimum of 8 hours per week.
Applicants understand that Residence Life & Housing at Emmanuel College oversees 5 residential communities (Loretto Hall, Notre Dame Campus, St. Ann Hall, St. Joseph Hall, and St. Julie Hall) and requires adequate staffing in all areas. Students offered roles will be assigned to one of these 5 communities and placements are non-negotiable. Should an applicant be offered a role and decline, they will need to reapply during the following academic year.

If you are interested in applying to serve as a Desk Assistant (DA), you must follow these steps:
- You MUST be a first year or transfer student to apply to this posting.
- You understand that you are only permitted to work a MAXIMUM of 12 hours across ALL roles at Emmanuel College.
- You must manage this and if you continually exceed 12 hours per week, you will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- You must attach a resume, which includes an outline of your anticipated commitments you expect to have on and off campus.
- This should detail your course schedule, internships, practicums, clinicals, or other academic commitments that would impact your availability.
- You should also share any anticipate any additional on or off campus employment with an expectation of the number of hours you expect to work at each.
- You may also share any extracurriculars, such as athletics, clubs, or other campus involvements.
- You understand that Residence Life will be scheduling TLs and DAs based on academic commitments ONLY. Other jobs or commitments are secondary to the DA role as it is a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our residential community and we must guarantee that students have a consistent schedule that meets the needs of the Office of Residence Life & Housing.
- You must attach a cover letter detailing skill sets that that you possess which you feel would be useful to providing a welcoming environment rooted in safety, security, and customer service. Please ensure you discuss the ways in which you will enhance the residential experience if a successful candidate and what you feel makes the on-campus experience at Emmanuel College unique.
