This semester, the McCafferty Career Center hosted three Industry Recruitment Series. Business, Management, & Design in September, Government, Criminal Justice, & Social Services in October, and most recently, Science, Research, & Healthcare in November.

The main focus of our Industry Recruitment Series is to encourage real conversations and relationship building. This differs from how most career fairs are set-up– crowded gymnasiums full of long tables stacked on top of each other, quick meet and greets, generic flyers and pamphlets. During our curated events, students are able to sit down and have small group or 1-on-1 conversations with employers from their industry about the hiring process, available opportunities, and the company itself.

This semester we had excellent turnouts both student and employer-wise. Combined, there were 185 students and 47 total employers in attendance, including a record high of 99 students in attendance for the Science, Research, and Healthcare Event. Some of the attending employers included the Boston Red Sox, KPMG, CohnReznick, Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, Boston Children’s Hospital, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Employers repeatedly share that they love the format of the informal conversations and that our students are well prepared and engaged. Many of these companies are repeat attendees and consistently say they plan to come back. Several students commented that they appreciate the laid back nature of the event and love that they can meet face to face with well-known, competitive companies that they might not get to otherwise.
